Reliance Jio to launch Rs 500 feature phone today

Reliance Jio is expected to launch its much-rumoured and awaited feature phone today. According to speculations, the company may price the smartphone at Rs 500. The company has reportedly tied up with domestic smartphone brand Intex for the manufacturing of the feature phone.

Earlier this week a report in Economic Times claimed that the co-developed phone will be priced by Jio through a subsidy mode. Intex is likely to manufacture the phones in India.

The report also said that Jio will be sourcing these phones from multiple vendors, including device makers in China. The move is widely expected to impact the company's efforts to add subscribers to its network at a faster pace.

Yesterday a report claimed to have leaked the alleged phone's pictures and packing. In the images that appeared on TechPP websites showed the phone sporting Reliance Jio's Lyf branding. The company earlier too has launched a slew of smartphones under its Lyf brand.

As per the TechPP report, the phone comes with a 2.4-inch display and sports a dual-language keypad. As widely rumoured, the display is not touch-screen. It comes with a dedicated torchlight.

On the back panel, the phone sports 2MP camera and is said to come with 512MP RAM and 4GB internal memory.

There are no details about the processor, but some earlier reports had claimed that the phone will run on Spreadtrum 9820 processor. Spreadtrum is a China based company. The smartphone will run on KAI OS.
